The agenda for WorldDAB's DAB+ workshop, taking place at the start of RadioAsia 2017 in Bangkok, has been revealed. Building on the success of the DAB+ workshop at ABU DBS in March, the half-day programme includes commercial radio case studies, updates on DAB+ transmission and receiver equipment and the radio spectrum challenge in South East Asia.

Thirteen national radio stations are already broadcasting via DAB+, and soon another 16 will join, and all of them are private. In Germany, at a recent meeting of Landeszentrale für Medien und Kommunikation (LMK), the State Media Authority of Rhineland-Palatinate, an innovative project aimed at facilitating broadcaster’s entry into the world of digital broadcasting was revealed. The portable DAB radio station known as "ODR2go" is an inexpensive means by which local radio stations are able to start transmitting in DAB+.

Over the last few years 435 new national and local DAB transmitters have been activated across the UK. The coverage of local DAB stations has now increased to 90% of UK households in a program co-funded by local commercial radio stations and multiplex operators, BBC and DCMS and coordinated by Ofcom.

Patrick Hannon, President of WorldDAB, gave a speech at the EBU Digital Radio Summit in Geneva addressing this subject. Covering the arguments for and against DAB for broadcasters, he concluded that many have already made the choice in favor of DAB digital radio.

Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, received a state-of-the-art Pure digital radio after a meeting with Nicola Sinisi, President of Tavolo Editori Radio (TER). Created in 2016, TER is responsible for gathering radio listening figures from across Italy.
