Michael Reichter (Verein Digital Radio Mitteldeutschland), Helwin Lesch (Bayerischer Rundfunk), Thomas Wächter (MEDIA BROADCAST), Ralf Reynolds (Endgerätehersteller PURE) sowie Ulrich Hürter (sunshine live) have been elected for another two years to oversee the work of the Initiative für Digitalradio in Germany.

The sales and the availability of digital radio receivers continue to rise according to market researchers. Over 1.8 million households now have at least one DAB or DAB + device and over 2.7 million digital radios have been sold with about 25 percent being used in cars.

There are more and more channels and stations taking to the digital airwaves and, one day, we will see the demise of good old analogue radio so, as we prepare to embrace this slow-burning technology, it’s good to know there are firms developing the technology to ensure we will be making the most of it.

Panasonic describes the SC-PMX7 as a ‘wireless hi-fi system’ by virtue of its built-in Bluetooth connection, which allows you to stream music from your mobile gadgets and laptops and includes a CD drive, an iPod/iPhone dock, DAB/DAB /FM radio tuners and a USB port as well.

Good news for football fans in Germany. In the future more football via DAB+ will be available as Energy and Sport1 FM expand their cooperation.

Radio1 in the Netherlands has started experimenting with images and text via DAB+ showing information such as special as news headlines, weather and traffic now available.

Other key features include a DAB receiver, EU navigation with 3-D content that includes even buildings and landmarks, and an enhanced Digital Terrain Model. Thanks to the Connected Media Center (CMC) the system shows no weaknesses when it comes to playing different media either as it comes with both a USB and an AUX port, as well as an SD card slot.
