Radioplayer has announced the growth of the Radioplayer alliance - with broadcasters from France, the Netherlands and Sweden joining the Radioplayer network.

Boom Radio, founded by radio industry heavyweights Phil Riley and David Lloyd, is targeted at the UK's growing 50, 60 and 70-something population. The station is launching on DAB in London, Bristol, Birmingham and Glasgow initially, followed by more locations in 2021.

Germany's digital radio office is helping the German public and automotive industry stay informed on the new regulations regarding radio receivers in cars. In line with the EECC directive, all radios in new cars across Germany should be capable of receiving digital terrestrial radio from 21 December 2020.

Commenting on the alliance's new objectives, Francis Goffin said "EDRA's new message to radio stations can be summed up in one sentence - partner on distribution and compete on content. This new paradigm stems naturally from the changes brought about by our digital era, and should lead radio stations in Europe to come together to meet the new challenges of digital distribution this decade".

A new technical organisation has been set-up by WorldDAB to assist broadcast radio industry stakeholders looking to implement DAB+ in the Asia-Pacific region.

Media Broadcast has announced the launch of new transmitter sites in Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg. Listeners in these regions will now be able to listen to stations available on Germany's second national multiplex.

WorldDAB has announced the launch of the WorldDAB Asia-Pacific Technical Group, a forum dedicated to assisting broadcast radio industry stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific region implement DAB+. The Group’s first meeting will take place online on 2 December 2020 - to register your interest, contact the Project Office.

DAB listening is the biggest platform for radio consumption in the UK. The scale of the platform and the fact it’s in 67% of homes, means that new stations can launch, but more importantly become multi-platform with distribution on apps, smart speakers and online.

The UK was one of the pioneering DAB markets and today, over half of all listening is on digital.
