Digital radio standards explained at #DBS2021

The ETSI TS 103 461 standard for digital radio receivers and has been updated to include new standards for car radio digital radio receivers. The latest standard was published in October 2020, it guarantees that all DAB receivers can handle all the requirements, including scripts for all world languages so they can be displayed on digital radio screens.

Netherlands - almost 20% of in-car listening on DAB+

19% of all in-car radio listening in the Netherlands currently takes place via DAB+, a daily equivalent of over 600,000 listeners. This number is expected to grow in the near future, as the EECC requires new passenger cars across Europe to include digital terrestrial radio capabilities.

Podcast Radio added to Birmingham small-scale DAB

Podcast Radio has been added to DAB in Birmingham, in addition to being on-air in London, Surrey, Manchester and Glasgow. Podcast Radio CEO Gerry Edwards says: “We’ve wanted to expand to Birmingham for some time now. We’ve been waiting for space on the digital transmitter multiplex there and as soon as the opportunity arose for further expansion, we grabbed it."

DRUK launches new digital radio campaign

Digital Radio UK has launched a new on air campaign communicating how listeners can enjoy their favourite stations with digital radio at home, on the go and in their car as the easing of restrictions sees a welcome return to more activities.
