Levira and Duo Media cooperation agreement brings up to 14 digital radio channels to listeners

Levira and Duo Media have signed an agreement under which Levira will set up a DAB+ digital radio distribution network where Duo Media will broadcast its radio channels. Up to 14 digital radio channels will be broadcast on a single network. "We are delighted to start working with Duo Media, which is actively contributing to the development of a new generation of radio services in Estonia to bring a wider choice of radio content in digital quality to listeners. I am confident that with the joint efforts of all market players, digital radio will soon reach many radio listeners," said Indrek Lepp, Member of the Management Board and Director of Media Services at Levira.

Improved DAB+ coverage on channel 6D in Zwolle and surroundings

On 14 March Radio Netwerk Nederland took over the technical management of DAB channel 6D in Zwolle. As a result of this takeover and the relocation of the transmitter to the broadcasting mast on the De Marslanden industrial estate in Zwolle, the cooperating broadcasters in allotment 23 now have significantly better coverage. In particular, reception in the city of Zwolle and the surrounding area has been greatly improved thanks to this modification.

RFI expands DAB+ presence in Paris and surrounds

Radio France Internationale France’s state-owned international public broadcaster, has expanded its reach in Paris and Île-de-France, the region surrounding the capital, with its launch on DAB+. The station, which has long been available on 89 FM, can now be accessed by listeners with DAB+ receivers across the French capital and its suburbs. France’s media regulator, Arcom, granted France Médias Monde — RFI’s parent organization — permission to broadcast the station via the Paris Intermediate 6A multiplex, operated by TDF through its transmission sites in Romainville and Meudon. The addition of DAB+ provides broader coverage and improved audio quality for listeners.

Bierhorst highlights over-the-air broadcast

At RadioDays Europe in Athens, Greece, WorldDAB President Jacqueline Bierhorst provided an update on the state of the DAB+ broadcast standard and encouraged broadcasters to embrace over-the-air transmissions. Bierhorst’s March 11 session was titled “Save Our Airwaves — DAB+ Outlook and Experiences.” WorldDAB is the group that advocates for the DAB digital broadcast platform. In a transcript of Bierhorst’s speech provided by WorldDAB, she spoke of her 35 years of experience in broadcast, which spanned both the public and private sectors. She was the project leader during the DAB+ rollout for all commercial broadcasters in the Netherlands. Bierhorst indicated that DAB+ is expanding in Africa, the Asia-Pacific and the Arab States.

Radio Prostor leaves several FM transmitters, plans to enter DAB+

Radio Prostor is changing its strategy to adapt to new trends in radio broadcasting. Radio Prostor will stop broadcasting on eight FM frequencies as part of its network optimization. The termination of broadcasting on these frequencies was approved by the Radio and Television Broadcasting Council (RRTV) following a request from the operator, Radio Prostor. It informed about it in its Thursday press release. Radio Prostor director Petr Lutonsky says the move is aimed at expanding broadcasting on the DAB+ digital platform, which is considered the future of radio broadcasting. "This year we are expanding our broadcasts on DAB+, which we see as the future, and in connection with this we are optimising the FM network," Lutonsky told MediaGuru.cz.

Agcom consults on use of TV spectrum for DAB+

Agcom is launching a public consultation regarding the updating of the regulatory framework on radio spectrum for digital television and radio use for the purposes of redistributing the frequencies currently planned for National Television Network No. 12. Now, with resolution No. 54/25/CONS of 6 March 2025, published today on its website, Agcom itself has launched the public consultation concerning the updating of the regulatory framework on the subject of radio spectrum for digital television and radio broadcasting use with a view to the reallocation of the frequencies currently planned for National TV Network No. 12 as part of the proceedings initiated with resolution No. 22/25/CONS.

Radiodays Europe 2025: an event combining radio, audio and podcasting

Radiodays Europe 2025 came to an end after three intense days of conferences dedicated to the world of radio, audio and podcasting. "The future of radio is DAB+": Jacqueline Bierhorst, President of WorldDAB, strongly supported the move to DAB+, highlighting the advantages in terms of reduced costs and resistance to network problems. Nicola Bomio, Head of Radio at CH Media, outlined the process of switching off FM in Switzerland, supported by government investment and an intensive communication campaign. The results? Commercial radio stations recorded a 10% increase in listeners and foreign radio stations a 25% increase, with an overall stability of the radio audience.

Northern Ireland DAB+ station Eirewave Takes RCS and Sound4

In Northern Ireland, radio station Eirewave is now using Zetta for automation from RCS and audio processing from Sound4. The station’s format is British and Irish pop-rock. It uses 14 DAB+ transmitters that provide service to areas such as Belfast, Newry and Derry. Eirewave also uses GSelector for music scheduling. The station said using the two RCS tools together will help advance its technology. Eirewave founder Olivier Eire said the station is using Sound4’s Impact audio processor for general processing and Sound4’s Big Voice for voice processing. As a DAB+ station, he said it seeks a “transparent and dynamic audio profile” rather than aggressive compression that might be found on FM.

Dorfkindradio starts at the beginning of April via DAB+ in Thuringia

Dorfkindradio is expanding its reach: from the beginning of April, the popular stream will also be available via DAB+ in Thuringia. The Thuringian State Media Authority (TLM) has confirmed the start date of 4 April 2025 via channel 12B. The radio programme, which first went on air on 11 November 2023, has been delighting listeners with an incomparable mix of party songs and current hits ever since. Since the start of the fifth season in 2023, ‘Dorfkindradio’ has been providing the perfect soundtrack for carnival, funfairs, pre-glow and that extra kick during work. From April, Dorfkindradio can be heard not only via dorfkindradio.de and Alexa, but also via DAB+ in Thuringia.
