02.05.2025 - Austria
Mario Frühauf, Managing Director of kronehit and Chairman of the Private Broadcasters Association (VÖP), takes a positive view of the situation at Austria's largest private radio station kronehit. He also believes that the newly launched DAB+ stations are on the right track. "With the DAB+ stations, we have succeeded in switching from a single-brand to a multi-brand strategy. This was very important in order to put our company on a broader footing and to have the opportunity to address new target groups," Frühauf said. "All radios in new cars must also be able to receive DAB+, so every new car sold is also a new DAB+ device on the market and increases broadcasting opportunities."

Radio, key to the 2025 blackout
01.05.2025 - Spain
The widespread blackout in Spain and other European countries has highlighted the importance of broadcasting as a critical infrastructure. 28 April 2025 will be remembered as the day on which the Iberian peninsula experienced one of the largest power blackouts in its recent history. Spain, Portugal, Andorra and parts of southern France suffered a collapse in electricity supply that paralysed critical infrastructures, directly affecting the daily lives of millions of citizens. For hours, a large part of the population was cut off: digital services and fixed and mobile telephone networks stopped working in a large part of the territory. In this context of uncertainty, a traditional medium once again demonstrated its strength: radio.
