Digital listening hours for the quarter increased 16% from 326 million hours in Q2 2012 to 378 million, and DAB remains the most popular device when it comes to listening to digital radio, accounting for 65% of all digital hours.

RAJAR figures for Quarter 2, 2013 show 91% of the adult population are listening to the radio, with 1.5 million more since this time last year.

The 2013 edition of the WorldDMB General Assembly will be held in Amsterdam from November 5–6 at the Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre. The assembly features opportunities to discuss current digital radio issues, as well as an opportunity for WorldDMB members and the international industry to network and share insights and experiences on the worldwide launch of digital radio.

Radio station JACKfm has announced it will launch a new station in the county later this year on DAB.

It was announced today that digital radio listening has reached a tipping point and now accounts for 36.8% of radio listening hours, up 16% year on year (RAJAR Q2 2013). In total, 28 million people now listen to radio via a digital platform each week, up from 24 million in Q2 2012. 52.5% of UK adults, or 57.8% of radio listeners, listen on a digital platform every week.

At one o'clock the switch was flicked on Sydney's newest station, Dance Super Digi, which promises to play Dance Anthems from the 80′s, 90′s and early 00′s.

It’s been a good quarter for Real Radio and Smooth Radio as the group has increased audience figures both quarter on quarter and year on year.The group’s only digital spin-off station Smooth 70s has also seen an increase in listeners, making it the third biggest digital-only commercial station behind Planet Rock and Absolute 80s.

Late July saw a three-day DAB+ Technology Workshop and Transmission Demonstration conducted in Hanoi, Vietnam (26, 27, 29 July). The event was jointly organised by WorldDMB and Voice of Vietnam and was supported by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). The workshop, organised in the lead up to the Radio Asia conference, 29 – 31 July was attended by more than 90 delegates from Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Macau and reflects growing interest in the DAB+ standard in the Asia Pacific.

At 1pm today a new DAB+ channel will be launched. Dance Super Digi are playing dance anthems from the 80s, 90s and early 00s. It is run by the Super Radio Network, who also have digital channels Gorilla Radio and Zoo.
