RADIO LÜBECK can now be heard in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
04.08.2025 - Germany
A new station has been available in the Schwerin region since 1 August. RADIO LÜBECK is now available via DAB+. The local station is thus significantly expanding its technical reach: the programme can now be heard in digital quality in the western part of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The station, which is based in the media docks in Lübeck, was previously heard on FM 88.5, via live stream and on cable. With the switch to DAB+, RADIO LÜBECK is now opening up a coverage area with around two million potential listeners. "We are very happy that we can now reach the entire region. Now we're also going to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, especially in the Wismar area and as far as the Schwerin city limits," says programme director Corin Sülau.

Thanks to listener feedback: egoFM back on DAB+ in Saxony
04.08.2025 - Germany
egoFM is back on DAB+ in Saxony, at least for the time being. And listeners have clearly contributed to this. In mid-July, DAB+ was temporarily suspended in Saxony. But now there has been a surprising twist. Since Thursday, the alternative programme can once again be heard on digital terrestrial radio in the local multiplexes in Leipzig, Chemnitz, Dresden and Freiberg. ‘We actually wanted to switch off the DAB+ broadcast for Saxony, but because we received so much positive feedback from listeners, we reactivated the stream to Saxony,’ explains Stefan Finkenzeller, managing partner, to DIGITAL FERNSEHEN. egoFM is now available again in Saxony without restrictions. Broadcasting via DAB+ will also continue in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

DOMRADIO.DE is the first broadcaster to sign up for DAB+ regional multiplexes in North Rhine-Westphalia
04.08.2025 - Germany
DOMRADIO.DE was the first broadcaster to sign a contract for the new DAB+ regional multiplexes – and did so in a particularly symbolic setting at the broadcasting centre directly adjacent to Cologne Cathedral. This marks the start of a new era of digital broadcasting for the Catholic media portal of the Archdiocese of Cologne. DOMRADIO.DE went on air for the first time on 11 June 2000, Pentecost Sunday, as the first church radio station officially sponsored by a diocese in Germany. The idea was conceived back in 1998 on the 750th anniversary of Cologne Cathedral. Since then, DOMRADIO.DE has established itself as an ad-free full-service station with a Christian focus.

The entry into force of new licences will cause a veritable musical chairs game in the airwaves. This applies to both FM and DAB+ radio.

Modern love – young people over-index on 70s, 80s and 90s digital stations
01.08.2025 - United Kingdom
From Bowie and Zeppelin to Prince, Madonna, and Oasis, the 70s, 80s, and 90s were full of icons, and its no surprise radio listening habits are still influenced by these stars. But what might come as a surprise is how popular decade stations are with younger people who weren’t alive to experience the hits as they came out. Rajar’s Q2 results showed when they do tune in to the radio, 15-24 year olds are overindexing on listening to national decades stations. Of the 7.8m adults who listen to at least one decade themed station each week, just under 1m are 15-24 year olds. This compares to the fact that just 7% of total radio listening hours are comprised of the same age group. The audience figures come as leading radio broadcasters Bauer and Global have increasingly leaned into developing stations based on segmenting music by decade.
