On 29th March 2018, the National Council announced the results of the competition for digital radio broadcasting in Kyiv. 9 radio stations are to broadcast in DAB+ format, with three of those being dedicated to public broadcasting. More information.

In July 2018, the National Council announced the results of another competition for digital radio broadcasting in Kyiv. Four additional radio stations are to broadcast in the DAB+ format. As of today, 14 DAB+ services are on air. More information

There are currently 14 stations broadcasting on DAB+, one of which is exclusively available on DAB+.

The population coverage of the local regular DAB+ multiplex on air in Ukraine is about 3 million people (the capital city - Kyiv).

The stations are available on frequency block 11D.

14 companies were winners of the competition for the DAB+ broadcasting licenses. 13 of the stations on the multiplex are simulcasts of FM stations and 1 is exclusive to DAB+.

The first stations began transmissions in June 2018. 

The transmissions are being implemented by the Broadcasting, Radiocommunications and Television Concern (BRT), which is also the telecommunications operator.

The Association of Broadcasters includes companies that hold licenses for broadcasting via DAB+. The objectives of the Association to uphold the interests of its members, network development and the promotion of digital radio.

Members of the National Council noted that this project is experimental. Previously, considerable work was done on UCRF, Concern RRT, which will be the operator of a multichannel network, representatives of the industry. The chairman of the National Council Yuriy Artemenko said that the letter to Patrick Hannon, president of WorldDAB, the global sectoral organization, was sent to the regulator, in which he expressed support for this initiative. "We are happy with the news that Ukraine is launching the introduction of digital broadcasting in the DAB+ standard in Kyiv. The competition, announced today, is an important first step towards ensuring future broadcasting in Ukraine, while the DAB+ standard will bring significant benefits to broadcasters and listeners".

Introduction of digital radio in Kiev: the first steps.

Broadcasting of the first radio stations in the digital standard DAB + can begin in the city of Kiev in the second half of 2018. "The National Council has decided to announce the competition on digital frequencies for the development of broadcasting in the city of Kiev in the DAB+ standard. This decision is significant, since today all broadcasting in Ukraine is carried out in analogue format or in the Internet."

On December 21, the National Council approved the competitive conditions and decided to announce the T-DAB Digital Broadcasting Contest in Kiev. This was reported in the press service of the National Council. Two transmitters for distribution of a digital signal are planned to be installed on the streets Dorogozhichy and Saperno-Sloboda. Synchronous broadcasting will be organized on the 7D channel. Number of programs - 14, broadcast volume - 24 hours a day.

During the last week of December, the Flemish Parliament approved the new plan of the Flemish Media Minister Gatz, which provides a focus on digital radio in the Flanders region.While the big news from Norway is that the FM shutdowns will start during the week of January 9th. At the end of December, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine National Council decided to contact the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine regarding amendments to the plan for radio frequency resources throughout the country.

Ukraine allocates spectrum for DAB

The National Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting in Ukraine put forward a proposal on 22 December 2016 to allocate spectrum for the deployment of DAB+. Executive Secretary of the National Council Oleksandr Ilyashenko said "We have long studied the experience of our European colleagues and concluded that it is necessary to give digital radio an opportunity to develop."

Norway will soon make the historic step of disabling FM-broadcasting, Switzerland will do the same in 2020.
