The ARD appreciates and supports the manifold activities, with which the commercial broadcasters currently try to improve the start conditions for the digital radio distribution. Lastly, one of the most important chip manufacturers for multimedia devices, the company Frontier Silicon, agreed to heavily boost the new-start of the terrestrial Digital Radio in Germany. “That’s a good sign for the further development of the radio market”, so the chairman of the ARD radio commission, Bernhard Hermann (SWR). “Only by the cooperation of all parties, the ongoing success of the media category radio can be transferred to the multi-medial world. We are convinced, that next to the Internet as distribution channel for radio programmes, also digital transmission stations with an optimized system especially for the mobile audio use should be in place.” In addition, the commercial broadcasters received an offer from the ARD, to develop together new services and functions within a common project. “Digital radio offers the audience as well as the providers many new content-wise and technical possibilities”, Herman said. “So that everything will run smoothly in the future, we should, within the dual system, also in technical questions work together even more closely like already at the category marketing or at the German Radioprize”.
