WorldDAB Automotive Working Group developing DAB+ test routes

18.04.2018

It has been a busy year for WorldDAB’s Automotive Working Group, with the publication of Automotive User Experience Guidelines and work with RadioDNS on how to best display station logos.

Meanwhile, a task force focused specifically on Antenna and Receiver Performance has been joining meetings between broadcasters and major car manufacturers, to continue the collaborative efforts to improve performance of DAB+ in vehicles.

“The response from the car manufacturers we have visited so far has been exceptional,” said Laurence Harrison, Chair of the WorldDAB Automotive Working Group and Market Development Director at Digital Radio UK. “These focused meetings have led to even greater collaboration between the broadcast and auto sectors, and we are working hard to ensure the issues put forward by the car industry are on the agenda to ensure the best possible digital radio experience for the driver.”

The next area of focus for the Group is the creation of drive test routes in several European countries. These will allow for the real-world testing of in-car digital radio and will be supported in each country by relevant stakeholders from the Performance Group. Further details on the test routes will be announced by WorldDAB in Q3 2018.

The work of the UX Group and the new test routes will be one of the items of discussion at The WorldDAB Automotive 2018 event, which takes place in Munich next month. Further topics include an update on the WorldDAB Automotive User Experience Guidelines, in-car DAB+ performance, JATO statistics on DAB+ in-car and the latest on EU-wide DAB+ receiver legislation.
