Thailand - Current situation - History

In April 2019, a 20 month trial was launched in Bangkok and the areas surrounding the capital. 

The trial network consists of one DAB+ multiplex with a capacity of up to 18 services. There is a total of 13 trial stations currently on air with the trial.

NBTC plan to extend the DAB+ trial in Bangkok for 3 years, and in 2020, it is expected NBTCwill expand DAB+ trial services and coverage to regional areas in the North, North-East, Central, and South of Thailand.

The objective of the trial is to discover appropriate network parameters in different environments, and to demonstrate interference-free audio, business models, introduce new data services on DAB+ including slideshow, data, emergency warning, EPG, and pop-up services.

The final phase of the trial – the launch of advanced services – is expected to be completed in 2020.
