Dario Edoardo Viganò describes the digital future for Vatican Radio: "It is clear that the future of radio will be played more and more in the digital environment. Everything is connected now: from buildings to cars. And the radio medium cannot remain on the margins of this process that has already caused the dissolution of traditional borders between different media."

In his address to a global audience of digital radio industry delegates at the WorldDMB General Assembly in Rome, Father Federico Lombardi, Director General of Vatican Radio described the importance of digital radio broadcasting in the enhancement of Vatican Radio services. Father Federico highlighted the benefits of digital audio broadcasting of "quality signal, of low energy consumption and with a considerable number of possibilities of programs to be broadcast... which allows us to extend our programs - not only on the area of Rome, but also nationally."

The WorldDMB General Assembly, which brought together more than 120 delegates from the European and Asia Pacific digital broadcasting industry concluded today in Rome. In an interview with Giorgio Guana, regional manager at Pure, he described the current digital broadcasting situation positively. "Sales of digital radios are going well, especially in countries such as Germany where two and a half million receivers were sold last year. Switzerland now has digital coverage of 99% with 450,000 receivers sold."
