Austria - Current situation - History

Following the launch of the regional DAB+ network in the eastern region of Austria in April 2018, a national DAB+ network operated by ORS was launched in May 2019, marking the start of a new era for radio broadcasting in Austria.

The first and second phases of the launch, which have now been completed, saw DAB+ population coverage reach 77%. Phase three - which will see population coverage reach 79.8% - is set to take place on 26.05.2020, while the fourth phase of the expansion, due for 25.08.2020, is expected to bring population coverage to 83.5%.

The first phase of the launch, which has now been completed, saw approximately 60% of the population covered by DAB+ signals.

Phase two will take place in on 11.12.2019 and increase population coverage in the country to 77.6%, while phase three - which will see population coverage reach 79.8% - will take place on 26.05.2020. Finally, the fourth phase of the expansion is set to take place on 25.08.2020, and bring population coverage to 83,5%.
