WEBINAR: Broadcast radio’s role in cars of the future – beyond the headlines of the Car Buyers Survey

19.01.2022

For broadcasters, it’s vitally important that car makers understand their customers’ attitude to broadcast radio in the dashboard. A recent Edison Research Survey, commissioned by WorldDAB, in partnership with Radioplayer and sponsored by National Association of Broadcasters, Commercial Radio Australia and Xperi, revealed that car buyers from across the globe consistently said that broadcast radio is their most preferred source of in-car entertainment.

Taking place on 1st February at 09:00 EST / 14:00 GMT/ 15:00 CET this webinar will give car makers and their suppliers an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the behaviours, trends and entertainment features that are driving the car buyer’s decision making. The webinar is structured around four areas:

The research headlines

One of the key findings of the research is that 90% of car buyers say that broadcast radio should be standard in every vehicle - we'll will take a closer look at this and some of the other stand-out findings from the research.

Understanding the car-buyers

Recent and prospective car buyers were surveyed from across six countries - Australia, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States. We'll hear about recent and prospective car buyer attitudes, their radio and audio listening habits, and the variations found across the countries surveyed.

Customer satisfaction with current radio and audio and future features

The research investigated what car buyers think about the radio and audio in their dashboard today and how they think the radio experience could be improved in the future through features such as screens, voice control as well as content.

What next for auto makers and radio broadcasters?

The survey findings were clear: car buyers want broadcast radio at the heart of their in-car listening experience, readily available and easy to use. Panellists will discuss what this means for car manufacturers' product planning teams as they plan the next generation of car infotainment systems, and what broadcasters can do to help car makers keep broadcast radio at the centre of the car dashboard.

About the research

Edison Research was commissioned by WorldDAB, in partnership with Radioplayer and sponsored by National Association of Broadcasters, Commercial Radio Australia, and Xperi, to conduct national online surveys in Australia, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The 6,287 respondents, evenly split among the six countries surveyed, reported either purchasing / leasing a new vehicle within the past two years or that they plan to purchase / lease a new vehicle in the next 12 months. Interviews were conducted between 1 September and 21 September 2021, and data was weighted to match the most recent population estimates from each country for age, gender, race and region.
