Creating a better listener experience in the car with broadcast and IP

11.03.2021 by WorldDAB

Yesterday, WorldDAB and the EBU brought together experts from the broadcast and automotive industries to discuss the future of radio in the car over a two-hour live webinar.

At the heart of the conversation was hybrid radio, and how it allows radio to stay relevant in the competitive entertainment world inside the connected car.

Highlighting the evident digitalisation of radio services in the car, members of the WorldDAB network and the European Broadcasting Union acknowledged the important role that DAB+ plays in this digitalisation process.

Broadcast radio - with DAB+ as the backbone - is the most efficient way to reach audiences, but in order to create a better user experience, broadcasters and automotive manufacturers must collaborate in order to provide a truly hybrid experience that combines both broadcast and IP.

Getting textual and visual information in the car in the form of metadata is also important to ensure radio remains strong in tomorrow's dash - as is the establishment of open standards, which help provide an interoperable and competitive market.
