EBU publishes updated DAB network planning guidelines

04.06.2018

The EBU has published an update to its guidelines for DAB network planning – the first significant revision since 2003. This strategic report provides guidance on the key elements necessary to plan and design a DAB network.

The EBU’s previous report on DAB planning issues, TR 021, was published in 2003 and still remains a useful guide. Since then, however, the widespread availability of new receivers, the experience gained by network planners and the revision by ETSI of the DAB standard in January 2017, highlighted the need for an updated document.

DAB+ adoption across Europe and around the world is going from strength to strength, driven by strong political commitment, the launch of new services, increased coverage and investment in consumer marketing. As more and more countries are starting DAB+ trials and services, the document is ideal for countries planning new or expanded DAB+ networks and will be relevant for all stakeholders involved in the network planning process.
