Day 2 - Technical updates on DAB+ features and head-end systems

Day 3 - How to design Single Frequency Networks, the use of Service Following to help listeners discover DAB+, how to undertake network cost analysis.

The event will be beneficial to both technical and managerial staff involved with planning and deploying DAB+ digital radio systems. The webinar also provides participants with access to industry experts for additional information and further guidance on all aspects of establishing and operating DAB+ digital broadcast radio networks.

Moderator

Dr Les Sabel
Chair, WorldDAB APAC Technical Group

Dr Sabel has over 30 years of experience in communications systems, including broadcast digital radio (DAB/DAB+ and DRM), mobile communications, wireless broadband, and satellite communications. A technical expert on DAB+, he provides independent engineering consultancy to WorldDAB, the ITU and broadcasters, regulators, network operators and equipment suppliers in Australia, Southeast Asia and around the globe. The Asia-Pacific Technical Group meets 2-3 times a year and gives guidance on the technical aspects of implementing DAB+ digital radio, with help and advice that is tailored specifically to the needs of the APAC region.

Jacqueline Bierhorst
President, WorldDAB, and Project Director, Digital Radio NL

Jacqueline Bierhorst has been a pioneer in commercial radio since 1987, specialised in distribution, marketing, and content. She has a strong track record in launching and leading successful commercial television and radio channels in The Netherlands and Belgium. From 2011 until 2015 she was project leader on the roll out of the DAB+ network in The Netherlands and since 2015 she is project director Digital Radio NL, a collaboration between public and commercial broadcasters and the Ministry of Economic Affairs coordinating involvement of all stakeholders and joint marketing of Digital Radio. Bierhorst is owner of Jacky B Entertainment Solutions, President of WorldDAB, a member of the WorldDAB Steering Board and an active ambassador of digital radio throughout Europe. She is also a consultant to the Flemish Government, Department of Culture, Youth and Media for the introduction of DAB+ in Flanders, initiating collaboration throughout the Flemish stakeholders on digital radio and country manager Radioplayer Netherlands. 

Dr Veysel Binbay
Director of ABU Technology & Innovation, Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU)

Dr Binbay is Director of ABU Technology and Innovation and joined ABU in 2019 as Senior Engineer – Broadcast Systems. He brought a wealth of experience and expertise to the Technology Department and was instrumental in setting up ABU's virtual training and webinar delivery system during the pandemic. He holds a Ph.D. in Science and has a remarkable track record in the technical field. He has over 20 years of experience working as a broadcast engineer at Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) in various roles and capacities.

Lindsay Cornell
Chair, WorldDAB Technical Committee, and Principal Systems Architect, BBC Digital
Lindsay Cornell has worked for the BBC for more than 30 years, in a variety of engineering, editorial and leadership roles spanning radio, TV, and spectrum regulation. He has considerable experience in leading collaborative projects through his roles as Chairman of CEPT FM PT51, dealing with spectrum issues for programme-making, and as Chairman of the WorldDAB Technical Committees, managing the stability and development of the respective standards.

Luis Grela
Managing Director, TRedess

Luis Grela is a Telecommunications engineer (University of Vigo, Spain) with over 25 years of experience working in the broadcast industry and since 2018 is Managing Director of TRedess.

In his professional career he has held a number of positions, initially working in the R&D areas in several companies (including Tandberg TV) and developing HW and SW solution for TV broadcasters, later moving into roles related to the customer support and presales at Ericsson TV.

He joined TRedess in 2010 and during the last decade he has been leading (in his role as Sales Director) the international expansion of TRedess as a company fully specialised in TV and DAB+ transmitters and Gap fillers (with more than 28,000 transmitting devices operating in more than 65 countries).

Roberto Moro
Strategic Broadcast Services Manager, Business Technology and Projects, SRG SSR, Switzerland

Roberto Moro contributes to the commercial and technical excellence of the SRG SSR DAB+ platform. As an expert of the broadcast market and radio communications he contributes on EBU, ITU, WorldDAB and national groups. Responsible for a leading user experience he is a pioneer of initiatives to improve DAB+ network planning, emergency warning, quality assurance, tunnel broadcast and receiver performance. He is chairman of the WorldDAB Aftermarket Devices Working Group. Prior to this position, Roberto held different positions for sales and product management in the mobile telecommunication industry.

Prof. Ridha Najar
Manager of ASBU Academy at ASBU Headquarters

Professional in the media field since 1970, Ridha NAJAR is a Doctor in Information and Communication Sciences from the University of Sorbonne (Paris, France), Professor at the Institute of Press and Information Sciences of Tunis (IPSI, 1971-2007). Responsible for television production and editor-in-chief of News magazines on Tunisian Radio Television from 1970 to 1974, director of Tunisian Television in 1981, General director of  CAPJC (the African Center for Training of Journalists and Communicators) from September 1983 to January 2007, he chaired the Higher Council of Communication in Tunisia from 1992 to 1997.

Researcher and author of numerous studies on the media, he is the author of several books and studies published in the field.
He provided several training sessions for Arab journalists at the ASBU Arab Training Center in Damascus and chaired his International Consultation Committee.

Since April 2017, he is the Manager of ASBU Academy at ASBU Headquarters, Tunis.

Bernie O’Neill
Project Director, WorldDAB
An experienced people connector within the digital radio industry, Bernie has headed WorldDAB since 2011, with overall responsibility for the direction and management of WorldDAB activities. Together with her team and the global network of WorldDAB members she works to further the adoption and implementation of DAB+, the digital successor of FM radio.  With a background in leadership of international trade associations for over 25 years, her career expands over several industries including radio, ICT, water and education. She is an expert at driving business development, delivering value to stakeholders, strategically aligning teams, and developing effective marketing communications. Trained in international business, she has held postings in London, Brussels, and The Hague.

Mr James Waterson
Sales Director, Factum Radioscape

James Waterson is the Sales Manager at Factum Radioscape, a UK-based leader in digital radio  solutions. With extensive experience in deploying DAB+ systems globally, he has overseen projects such as Thailand and Senegal's first DAB multiplexes using the latest Multimuxa platform. Factum Radioscape recently upgraded the DAB+ platform for commercial radio broadcasters in Australia, and provide encoding, multiplexing and monitoring to national public broadcasters like BBC and ERT. Factum Radioscape have also been instrumental at introducing hosted DAB+ operations for the small-scale DAB service providers in the UK.

Hanns Wolter
Technical Director, DAB Italia and Chair, WorldDAB Spectrum and Network Implementation Committee

Hanns has been working in the DAB world since 2000 as a Product Manager and has, in these years worked on all issues regarding DAB, at both a national and international level, including the introduction of DAB+ in 2007. He is involved in network planning and spectrum issues and also works closely with hardware manufacturers for the deployment of a comprehensive DAB environment. Currently, he is responsible for the planning and management of the ongoing roll-out of DAB Italia’s network and all issues related to the creation, distribution and transmission of the multiplex.

Mr Carsten Zorger
Director, Digitalradio Büro Deutschland

Zorger is the Director of the German DAB+ digital radio marketing body - Digitalradio Büro Deutschland which oversees the marketing and promotion of DAB+ digital radio in Germany. Prior to this, he was head of marketing and communications at the German national radio broadcaster, Deutschlandradio. Previously, he was head of public relations at the Berlin-Brandenburg branch of ADAC, the German automobile association. He was responsible for corporate communications at ISP Strato AG, one of the world's largest web-hosting companies. He has extensive experience in the radio industry, having been chief editor and director of audio and internet at SWR3 Börsenman and managing editor at BLR in Bavaria.
