UK digital radio manufacturer Pure has announced the Elan E3, a mid-price table-top DAB+ receiver which is the first at this price to include a color screen. This is the first time that a SlideShow-capable digital radio receiver has been available for under £50 and may stimulate UK broadcasters' interest in SlideShow functionality.

5 years ago Germany was given the go-ahead for radio to be broadcast via DAB+, giving listeners a greater variety of content. Willi Schreiner, Managing Director of DRD Digital Radio GmbH Germany said "DAB+ will replace FM, as a foundation for radio in the digital age."

DAB+ offers a way for the Bauer Media Group to expand its radio business in Germany. According to Bauer Group CEO Andreas Schoo, DAB+ gives new impetus to the radio landscape, and with declining TV audiences, radio provides an effective alternative for advertisers.

Entry-level models come with DAB radio, sat-nav, alloy wheels, automatic wipers, Bluetooth, climate control, LED daytime running lights and cruise control.

This model includes DAB+ digital radio as part of the MZD-Connect infotainment scree.

The car comes equipped with features such as DAB radio and Bluetooth.

The Comand infotainment system in the car includes sat-nav, DAB+ digital radio, dual-zone climate control and LED headlights.

Frontier Silicon has upgraded its Verona 2 module which supports colour screen displays for DAB/DAB+ digital radios. Frontier’s new solution offers manufacturers a low cost way of incorporating colour screens into standard DAB / DAB+ radios. The first consumer product featuring this new technology is the Pure Elan E3.

The standard gear for the entry-level model includes cruise control, an 8.3-inch centre screen with touchpad, navigation, live traffic updates, adaptive LED headlights, DVD player, DAB digital radio, 10GB music storage and USB connection.

Belgian Dutch-language broadcaster TOPradio has recently upgraded its on-air and production studios, seeing DAB+ as opening up new potential in terms of audience reach. “The FM dial in Flanders is saturated, with no future prospects, despite the upcoming 2017 FM radio licence review... our growth lies with DAB+ and our new studio configuration is ready to deal with it.”
