Radioplayer website and apps to launch in Canada

Radioplayer is to launch in Canada – marking the first licensing agreement outside Europe for the service. The deal, which was co-ordinated by the newly-formed Canadian Association of Broadcasters, will see at least fourteen companies signed up to the Radioplayer Canada coalition, representing the majority of Canadian radio stations.

French regulator extends three 3 DAB+ trials

The French regulator (CSA) has authorised the continued broadcast of 7 Radio France radio stations in the East of Paris, until 28 March 2017 as well as the DAB+ trials also happening in the south west of Paris and in Nantes.

Nationwide digital radio to comes to Hesse

Radio deregulation plans tipped for end of the year, promises minister for digital Matt Hancock

Hancock revealed that he plans to introduce legislation at the “earliest opportunity” for the licensing and regulation of small-scale DAB multiplex services. It follows the successful outcome of Ofcom’s Local DAB trial. “I have asked my officials to look at options for introducing legislation at the earliest practical opportunity to create a light touch licensing and regulatory framework which would be more appropriate for these types of services,” he added.

Radio deregulation plans coming this year, says culture minister

Matt Hancock MP announced the plans at the Radio Festival, the radio industry’s annual conference, held in the British Library in London. The minister also announced he is looking at introducing legislation for the regulation of small-scale DAB multiplex services, following a trial by Ofcom. Services on DAB are free from any rules on providing local content. Ofcom was asked to consider how to create a level playing field for analogue and digital audio broadcasting radio services.
