Ulrich Wilhelm, Bavarian Broadcasting Director and Siegfried Schneider, President of the Bavarian State Center for New Media (BLM), signed a broad cooperation agreement last week. After several months of negotiations, planning and voting, an agreement was signed, in which the partners BLM and BR will carry out a wide cooperation in the operation of DAB networks in Bavaria over the next 8 years.

At the end of November, Les Sabel of WorldDAB hosted a workshop on DAB+ digital radio in Kula Lumpur, Malaysia, with 28 attendees from 12 different countries.The workshop was hosted in partnership with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU).

In Denmark the Radio and Television Board has appointed Digital Radio Teracom A/S as a new gatekeeper, who will enter into agreements with radio stations to broadcast nationwide commercial radio in DAB+.

The RAS has further expanded the reception of digital radio statsions DAB+ in South Tyrol. The new stations in Enneberg, Gsies, Rabenstein, Rauth, Schlinig, Anterselva, Pragsertal and Kurzras were put into operation. This means that now 99.3 percent of the South Tyrolean population can receive 21 digital radio programs without interference.

Testing is being implemented by Latvian State Radio and Television Centre (hereinafter - the Centre) in collaboration with VAS Latvian Radio. The purpose of testing is to find DAB + suitability for the Latvian market and will last until next November.

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union’s annual Digital Broadcasting Symposium will be held on March 6–9 at The Royale Chulan Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Tthe Center Party is concerned about what to do with all the FM radios that will no longer be needed after the digitalswitchover. In fact, it is asking the government to consider a return scheme for FM radios: “In order that these radios will not be yet another waste pile of usable electronics, it is important to see how they can be recycled,” party culture spokesperson Anne Tingelstad Wøien

Radiodays Europe, the annual conference for the European radio industry and a destination for radio people from around the world, has announced its preliminary programme with a glimpse of some of the topics for its next edition.

11th January 2017 is a historic day for the medium of radio. Norway becomes the first country in the world to move towards fully digital radio transmissions. As a result of this, the national FM network will be switched off.

MDR is running an DAB+ day on 15 December across all it's radio stations to help educte listeners about the benefits of digital radio. Special programmes recorded for the DAB+ day will explore what to look for when buying digital radios and the technical benefits of DAB+.
