Progress for DAB+ digital radio in Eastern Europe

DAB+ is spreading in Eastern Europe. In December 2016 in Latvia the state-owned radio broadcaster LVRTC started DAB+ tests. Latvia is the seventh Eastern European country in which digital terrestrial radio has been introduced. Ukraine may be the next country in eastern Europe to launch DAB+ tests.

Media Broadcast to sell off FM infrastructure

German media provider Media Broadcast plans to sell its analogue FM business to focus exclusively on digital. Media Broadcast announced that it would be seeking buyers for its analogue FM transmitters and antennas, with the aim to divest these assets by 30 June 2018.

Media Broadcast to sell FM business

German transmitter network operator Media Broadcast has decided to sell its FM aerials and transmitters to focus on digital growth areas and services. Wolfgang Breuer, CEO of Media Broadcast, said“We will pursue a distinct digital strategy particularly focuses on the growth areas DVB-T2 HD and DAB+ as digital technologies for TV and radio distribution.”

Norwegians bought nearly one million new DAB radios last year

Norwegians bought a total of 965,000 DAB radios in 2016. An increase of 30.4 percent compared with 2015. 155,000 new cars were sold in Norway in 2016 and according to figures from Digitalradio Norway about 90 percent of these had DAB+ installed.
