Stations Radio Seefunk and radio B2 will begin DAB+ broadcasts in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, following approval by vthe Media Council of the State Institute for Communications (LFK).

New research by Kantar Media shows 15% of Bavarians listen to DAB+ radio in a typical week - up by more than a quarter compared to last year, and that DAB+ listening has greater reach than internet listening. DAB is up, radio through internet, cable and satellite is relatively static, but FM use has decreased: down by almost 5% year-on-year.

Two new stations will begin DAB+ broadcasts in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The board and media council of the State Institute for Communications (LFK) has approved contracts for radio radio b2 and Radio Seefunk to begin DAB+ transmissions.

The ComfortLine follows the DynamicLine, which includes an infotainment system with 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, DAB+ digital radio and smartphone exchange via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Calling DAB+ “a game changer”, she added, “It provides our citizens with better quality radio, and from a government perspective, it helps us broadcast important emergency messages on all channels simultaneously."

The European Broadcasting Union's latest annual report has announced that the total number of digital radio stations has grown 23.7% since last year. The figures come from the Market insights digital radio 2018 report.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU)'s Market Insights Digital Radio 2018 published in February reported that the number of digital radio stations increased 23.7 percent (from 288 to 1,503 stations) in a single year, detailing the expansive progress of DAB+ across Europe.
