To mark the launch of the pilot which is taking place exclusively in Surrey for three months from 16 October - and to demonstrate that any vehicle can be upgraded to a digital radio – a digital radio unit was fitted into a tractor owned by local farmer, John Nicholas, at Halfords in Redhill at the launch event.

The DAB+ session which took place within the newly branded conference in Australia featured presentations from DIgital Radio UK, Radio DNS, Xperi and RadioApp.

Available to download as an infographic here, the WorldDAB report includes statistics on receiver sales, road and population coverage, household penetration and the number of national stations on DAB/DAB+ compared to FM. The report covers Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and the UK, along with DAB rollout status for emerging markets in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Croatia will start a one-year DAB+ test at the end of November. The Medienanstalt has now published the list of the 16 private radio stations that will participate in it. A selection decision had to be taken as a total of 25 applications had been received, but only 16 were available.

France is at an important stage in the deployment of digital radio. Norway will soon complete its shift to digital broadcasting. And it is in this environment that the WorldDAB 2017 General Assembly will take place in Paris and the future of digital radio will be discussed.

To address these questions, the WorldDAB team gathered existing research from around the world and spoke to experts from the radio and mobile worlds to better understand the issues and challenges. The outputs from this work include a factsheet, slideshare and interview with a 5G expert.

The conference, for which the organisation is still accepting registrations, will serve as a platform for discussions on the future of digital radio and DAB+ deployments around the world. It will also give an overview of the advances made in the transition to digital radio and the impact of DAB + on the future of radio.

The second Australian Share of Audio study by GfK, which measures listening to all forms of audio including radio, owned music collections, streaming services, podcasts and online music videos, found Australians spend 65.3% of audio time, or 2 hours and 10 minutes per day, listening to live Australian radio...
