More than 200 participants, including political decision-makers, broadcasters and representatives of industry gathered at the WorldDAB General Assembly. They discussed the growth of DAB+ as a digital radio standard throughout Europe and beyond.

Government Ministers, broadcasters, regulators and technology vendors gathered today in Vienna to set out their vision for the future of digital radio. Political and regulatory representatives from Germany, France, Norway, United Kingdom and Slovakia were joined by the European Commission in discussing the future of digital radio and the adoption of DAB across key markets.

David Jensen and Pat Sharp are among the presenting line-up for commercial radio operator UKRD’s new digital service, My Music Radio, launching today. Signal, Pulse and The Wave are bringing back their pop-up Christmas radio stations again this year. Signal Christmas will broadcast across Staffordshire & Cheshire, Pulse Christmas across West Yorkshire and Wave Christmas across South West Wales, all on DAB digital radio multiplexes.

Speaking at the WorldDAB General Assembly – a gathering for everyone involved in digital radio from broadcasters to manufacturers and regulators – Dixon encouraged the group to reflect on information sources in the 21st Century. Seeking out other gatekeepers, Dixon noted that remaining exclusively in the FM domain also constituted a gatekeeper, however balanced the conventional radio output. By restricting the number of channels available, it inevitably blocked – in a passive aggressive manner - the launch of new services and the further plurality of voices which DAB can provide.

The new ERF 5 has a special yellow save button, which allows users to save their favorite digital radio stations more easily.

Recently published figures from WorldDAB and JATO show that the number of DAB-receivers installed in the new cars is growing in key markets across Europe. In the first half of 2016 more than 1.7 million new cars were sold with DAB-receiver in them.
