All about digital terrestrial radio

Arriving in June 2014 around Paris, Marseille and Nice, the digital terrestrial radio (DAB+) expanded its field of action last June with more than 50 stations available in digital around Lille and several areas of the North and Pas-de-Calais. According to the CSA, the future of radio in France will be hybrid, with receivers capable of capturing all existing formats: FM, DAB+ and internet.

European Parliament votes moves in-car radio legislation closer

A vote in the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) formally endorsed a political deal in trilogue on a new EU Electronic Communications Code, aimed at transitioning towards digital radio. A key provision of the code would include requiring radios in cars to be enabled to receive digital content. The Parliament’s plenary is expected to vote on the issue after the summer.

New research by Kantar Media shows 15% of Bavarians listen to DAB+ radio in a typical week - up by more than a quarter compared to last year, and that DAB+ listening has greater reach than internet listening. DAB is up, radio through internet, cable and satellite is relatively static, but FM use has decreased: down by almost 5% year-on-year.
