Frontier Silicon has upgraded its Verona 2 module which supports colour screen displays for DAB/DAB+ digital radios. Frontier’s new solution offers manufacturers a low cost way of incorporating colour screens into standard DAB / DAB+ radios. The first consumer product featuring this new technology is the Pure Elan E3.

The standard gear for the entry-level model includes cruise control, an 8.3-inch centre screen with touchpad, navigation, live traffic updates, adaptive LED headlights, DVD player, DAB digital radio, 10GB music storage and USB connection.

Belgian Dutch-language broadcaster TOPradio has recently upgraded its on-air and production studios, seeing DAB+ as opening up new potential in terms of audience reach. “The FM dial in Flanders is saturated, with no future prospects, despite the upcoming 2017 FM radio licence review... our growth lies with DAB+ and our new studio configuration is ready to deal with it.”

A collective of over 10 broadcasters are working together to speed up the deployment of digital radio. "DAB+ permits radio to modernise and offer new services and content while remaining free-to-air and independent."

This model comes packed with a range of kit including air conditioning, electric front windows, a DAB radio, Bluetooth, a USB socket and Renault’s R&GO infotainment system.

This new car will include heated front seats, keyless entry and go and DAB radio.

In February 2016, the specification was updated for use in Europe. Manufacturers were then given a three-month transitional period where they could have their radios tested against either the old or the new specs. Now all newly accredited DAB digital radios must meet the new Europe-ready standards if they are to get the tick mark.
