DAB+, today’s radio standard and the digital successor to FM, remains the key driver of radio digitisation in 2026. According to the latest ma 2026 Audio I survey – the benchmark for radio and online audio usage – DAB+ now reaches 34.5 per cent of the population in the WHK. The WHK (Weitester Hörerkreis) is a reach metric that measures, for example, the awareness of a radio brand. This represents an increase compared with the 32.9 per cent recorded in ma 2025 Audio II. Among the 30–59 age group, the figure is even higher at 41.7 per cent (previously: 39.9 per cent). As shown by the media authorities’ “Audio Trends 2025” report, more than three-quarters of all people who had listened to linear radio in the past four weeks already had access to DAB+ or web radio within the “Wider Audience” (WHK).
