Digital Radio UK

United Kingdom

Digital Radio UK, together with the Radio Academy Midlands and RadioToday, are to hold a digital radio event in Birmingham on Wednesday 3rd May. Speakers will provide updates on the 70 stations on DAB in Birmingham, the launch of 33 new national and local stations in the last eighteen months, the fourteen DAB stations on the Birmingham mini-mux, and progress on Bauer’s digital strategy and Free Radio Birmingham.

Germany

Earlier this year Norway became the first country in the world to begin switching off FM signal in favour if DAB+. Other countries such as Switzerland have also set plans for their digital switchover. In Germany it is hoped the digital switchover will be complete by 2025.

Czechia

About 58% of the population in the Czech Republic is reached by digital radio signals. The Czech Government aims to prepare a Development Strategy for radio broadcasting in the country most likely in 2021, with the resolution of analogue FM broadcasting after 2025.

Bulgaria

The Council for Electronic Media (CEM) together with the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) held consultations with representatives of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), the Association of Bulgarian Broadcasters (ABRO) and FOCUS Radio in March 2017. The attitudes for future digital broadcasting in Bulgaria were discussed during the meeting.

The Norwegian Media Authority has published a range of information about the digital switchover in Norway, in English. New resources include a detailed information brochure on the DSO and switchover maps and plans.

Belgium

The public broadcaster RTBF in Belgium has ordered a complete solution for its upcoming DAB roll out. It’s a major contract containing 16 Multiplexers, 192 audio encoders, data handling and management systems, all in full redundancy. Paneda and its local partner Heynen will handle installation and support. The contract also contains a support contact with 24-7 support from Paneda.
