Four applications for the second nationwide DAB+ multiplex have been submitted to the Sächsisches Landesanstalt für private Rundfunk und neue Medien (SLM) and include Digital Audio Broadcasting Platform DABP GmbH, Absolut Digital GmbH  & Co. KG, Media Broadcast Digital Radio GmbH and Radio digital GmbH.

A deal has been struck between Clearbox Systems and France-based Digidia for Clearbox to represent Digidia’s DAB and Synchronous FM product lines in Australia. As part of the agreement, Clearbox engineers and technicians will now be trained in the Digidia product suite so they can provide system design and integration, sales engineering and after-sales support.

In the Netherlands, the number of DAB + radios sold grew in 2016 by 33%, as compared to 2015. The Netherlands is on track with its plan to achieve the fastest rollout of DAB + in Europe. In Belgium, the public broadcaster RTBF has selected Paneda to provide a complete DAB+ solution for their upcoming digital radio rollout.

United Kingdom

The small-scale digital radio multiplex serving Brighton and Hove has become the first multiplex in the UK to completely convert all of its services to the newer DAB+ broadcast standard. Listeners in Brighton now have a choice of over a dozen DAB+ stations, including Angel Vintage, MiSoul and Smile Sussex. DAB+ allows more stations to fit on each multiplex, and allows more stations to operate in stereo.

Over 140 industry professionals from 20 different countries attended the Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB+) workshop at the ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium (DBS) this year. On the agenda was hybrid radio, the business case for implementing DAB+, the benefits of DAB+ in smartphones, as well as the overall progress of DAB+ in the Asia-Pacific region.
