Radio France is expanding its DAB+ coverage with 21 new transmitters across the country
A further 700,000 listeners can now tune in to France Inter, franceinfo, France Culture, France Musique, FIP and Mon petit France Inter via DAB+. With the activation of these 21 new transmitters, Radio France is expanding its DAB+ coverage and strengthening its presence throughout France. Since 27 October, new urban areas and surrounding towns have been able to enjoy public service radio stations in digital quality. In the coming weeks, Dieppe, Neufchâtel and Vesoul will in turn be able to receive public service radio stations via DAB+.

The good news is that UK radio is well placed to compete on choice, because DAB and the internet have given it room to. Digital now accounts for 76.4% of radio listening hours, up from 73.8% a year ago, and both routes are growing. DAB carries 43.1% of all listening (up from 41.6%) and reaches 61.7% of adults every week. Streaming through apps, websites and smart speakers has 30.8% (up from 29.7%), and smart speakers alone account for nearly one hour in five. Between them they’ve made the spin-offs, the specialist stations and the long tail possible. A decade station or a classical chill-out service wouldn’t have had anywhere to live on FM.

RAJAR: 77% of UK population tune in to digital radio every week
RAJAR has announced 51.2 million adults or 87% of the adult (15+) UK population tuned in to their selected radio stations each week in the third quarter of 2026. The total
average number of weekly hours listened to radio for this Quarter is 1.034 billion hours. 77% of the population tune in to digital radio every week. In terms of reach, 45 million adults aged 15+ are now tuning in to radio via a digitally enabled platform (DAB, DTV, Website/App, or Smart Speaker) each week. In an average week, digital listening accounts for 790 million hours; DAB has a 56% share of digital listening hours, Smart speaker 24%. Website/Apps 16%, and DTV 3%.

BBC Radio remains UK’s favourite
According to the latest RAJAR figures for the period 29 June to 20 September 2026, the BBC remains the UK’s number one radio brand, with 31 million weekly listeners and an audience share of 42%. Radio 1 has a stable total brand reach of 8.2m listeners aged 10 and over (7.6m 15+), from 8.2m last quarter with Radio 1 Dance reaching 702k 10+ (645k 15+), and Radio 1 Anthems continuing to grow significantly reaching 701k 10+ (630k 15+) up from 623k last quarter, and from 433k the quarter before that. Radio 3 Unwind reached 382k with its schedule of specially curated programmes, with a focus on soothing and reflective music. BBC Radio 6 Music has 2.6m listeners and 6 Music Breakfast with Nick Grimshaw has 1.3m listeners. 6M is UK’s most listened-to digital-only radio station.

Further discussions on radio licences in Greece
A new round of discussions has begun between the team of the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and representatives of the relevant authorities regarding the draft law on the licensing of radio stations. a special committee has also been set up to deal with matters relating to digital radio broadcasting (DAB+). It should be noted that a plan for terrestrial digital broadcasting has already been drawn up by the Ministry of Digital Governance dating back to the SYRIZA era.
