Public consultation

In August 2026, Úrad pre reguláciu elektronických komunikácií a poštových služieb [Office for the Regulation of Electronic Communications and Postal Services] published a "Public consultation on the preparation of a tender procedure for the allocation of frequencies in the 174–230 MHz band for digital terrestrial radio broadcasting." The document sets out that: "the Authority’s objectives in relation to the preparation and conduct of the selection procedure are:
1) to lay the groundwork for the introduction of regular DAB broadcasting in Slovakia;
2) to achieve the highest possible level of coverage of the territory of the Slovak Republic with a signal from the DAB+ communication network of the terrestrial multiplex;
3) to allocate frequencies for DAB broadcasting for a period of 20 years."

The consultation states that "the Office’s aim is to gather up-to-date information from both experts and the general public regarding the roll-out, operation and subsequent expansion of digital terrestrial radio broadcasting in Slovakia. The Office will subsequently use the information obtained in this way to prepare and conduct a tender procedure for the allocation of frequencies from the 174–230 MHz band for digital terrestrial radio broadcasting, which will result in the introduction of regular DAB broadcasting in Slovakia." Responses are required by 21 September 2026.

Previously, in November 2020, a public consultation regarding the launch of regular DAB+ services in Slovakia was published by the Slovakian regulatory authority. A summary of this consultation is available here (in Slovakian).

As part of the consultation, key public and private broadcasters as well as telecoms operators from Slovakia indicated that there is both interest and potential for the launch of regular national DAB+ services in Slovakia.

The conclusion of the regulatory authority in regards to the consultation was that regular nationwide DAB+ services will be launched in Slovakia as soon as possible, with the exact timing still to be confirmed.
