VRTC, Latvia’s state-run transmission provider, has announced a winner to its tender for a DAB+ trial multiplex in Latvia, selecting A-T Trade Music. Latvian Radio and LVRTC expect the DAB+ equipment and trial multiplex to go on the air sometime in November with 18 DAB+ stations.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority is examining proposals for expanding digital radio services in Australia. Communications Minister Mitch Fifield said that a recently established digital radio planning committee had posted ACMA with its latest recommendations for planning principles for rollout of digital radio to regional areas.

The first major study of audio consumption in Australia has found that the entry of Pandora, Spotify and Apple Music have failed to make a dent on Australian radio’s dominance in the audio space. The study revealed Australian radio (AM, FM and DAB+) has five times the daily reach of the combined streaming services (69.7% compared to 12.4%).

CRA has joined forces with the ABC and SBS to launch the first Australian mobile app that will allow listeners to live stream more than 250 Australian radio stations. “Listening habits are evolving and RadioApp will ensure radio remains easily accessible no matter what platform or device our listeners choose to use,”said CRA chief executive officer Joan Warner.
