The Federal Council and the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) want to change legislation making all radios sold in Germany after the first of January of 2019 capable of receiving digital radio transmissions.

Latvia

Latvian Radio will be able to test the digital radio technology in collaboration with the Latvian State Radio and Television Center over a period of one year. The National Electronic Mass Media Council has decided not to offer the opportunity to commercial broadcasters during that time.

Australia

New research by Commercial Radio Australia has revealed that Australian radio (AM, FM and DAB+) has five times the daily reach of the combined streaming services (69.7% compared to 12.4%). The Australian Communications and Media Authority is examining proposals for expanding digital radio services in Australia. Right now, digital radio is mainly limited to State capitals, with experimental services in Darwin and Canberra.

Germany

The calls for a second national DAB+ network in Germany are increasing. Last week it was announced that Bauer Media is going to sign up to be able to exploit this new DAB+ network. It is intended that the new multiplex will go on air next summer.

Italy

The first workshop on DAB+ digital radio organised by the regulator took place on 27 September. During the event AGCOM called for more support and further investment from public broadcaster RAI in the continued roll out of DAB digital radio.
