The first of three podcasts is entitled “DAB Lessons from Developed Markets.” Moderated by Sam Bonham, it features Jacqueline Bierhorst, Digital Radio Netherlands; Joan Warner, Commercial Radio Australia; and Ford Ennals, Digital Radio UK. Following a General Assembly session that focused on DAB development across Europe, the podcast focuses on the opportunities for commercial radio, the need for collaboration, lessons on adopting DAB, and the panelists’ view on digital switchover.

Aussie radio still king of the road

Radio remains the most popular entertainment choice on the road, with Australian commuters largely overlooking the music streaming options that have been introduced into car dashboards, according to research released today. Radio accounts for 80% of in-car listening, followed by owned music such as CDs and downloads making up 12% of listening, and three per cent of listening going to the streaming services Apple Music, Pandora and Spotify, the GfK Australian Share of Audio study found.

Manchester Cathedral starts DAB radio station

The pop-up station is being run by Manchester Cathedral on Niocast’s minimux, with the help of radio pro Mike Shaft. Manchester Cathedral Radio launches at 9am on December 1st and will continue till 6pm on January 5th.

Local DAB+ experiments to be extended

Since July this year a number of local broadcasters in East Groningen have been experimenting with broadcasting via DAB+. The local broadcasters Radio Westerwolde, RTV Logo and seaport FM currently use one relay station but in the foreseeable future this will be expanded with a second relay station for a better range.

NEMC allows Latvian Radio to test digital radio

The National Council for Electronic Media (NEMC) has approved amendments to Latvian Radio's broadcasting license, which allows a year of testing via DAB+. RL programes will begin broadcasting on DAB+ from the 17 November 2016 until 16 November 2017.
