At the SRG Industry Forum 2018, Philippe Zahno, President of the Working Group on Digital Migration (DigiMig), announced the group would favour a switchover from 2021 to conclude in 2022. The event also discussed DAB+ network expansion plans and the work being undertaken to convert drivers to digital radio.

On the opening day of the conference, WorldDAB, in partnership with SADIBA, SENTECH and the University of the Witwatersrand, will be hosting a dedicated DAB+ seminar. With South Africa’s ongoing DAB+ trial about to be extended, and the regulator soliciting industry responses to its consultation paper on implementing digital radio, there is strong interest in moving to digital and the opportunities that DAB+ enables.

From 19 June, a new transmission operation will begin in Lille with 39 stations, 27 of which will be broadcast exclusively via DAB+. French broadcasting authority CSA will also announce further plans to expand DAB+, with most of the country to be covered by 2021.
