Germany

The revised telecoms law requires all new car radios to be able to receive digital terrestrial radio from 20th Dec 2020 – as required by the European Electronic Communications Code. The law also requires all new consumer radios, capable of displaying a station’s name, to be able to receive digital signals (for example, DAB+ or IP) – from the same date.

Netherlands

According to the annual survey published by the the Central Bureau of Statistics, 16% of 25-65 year olds say they own a DAB+ radio, while 45% say they have heard of DAB+ digital radio.

Ukraine

Based on the conclusions concerning electro magnetic compatibility and information submitted by the operator of the local DAB+ multiplex – the Broadcasting, Radiocommunications & Television Concern (BRT Concern) – in its letter dated of 11 October 2019, the National Council being guided by Article 25 of the Law of Ukraine “On Television and Radio Broadcasting” decided to amend the annex to the Decision of the National Council No. 1308 of 05 September 2019 “On announcing the competition for obtaining the license for radio broadcasting in the terrestrial digital multichannel network (T-DAB standard) with the use of radio frequency resource” with regard to “frequency block (frequency, MHz)” by changing nominal value of 7D (194,064) to 11D (222,064). The channel 11D (222,064) has been calculated in accordance with the Frequency Assignment Plan GENEVA 2006 (GE06) in order to substitute the temporarily assigned (until analogue TV switch-off) frequency block 7D (194,064 MHz).

Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has successfully launched a DAB+ trial in Baku. A total of 12 DAB+ stations are available to listeners in the capital and the wider region of the Absheron peninsula, covering around three million people.

BBC World Service and EuroDAB Italia have entered into an agreement to broadcast the global network’s rich mix of BBC News, documentaries, business, sports, arts and science programs as a new service included in EuroDAB Italia’s DAB+ multiplex.

Germany

A new DAB+ digital radio campaign is set to launch in Germany this winter. Orchestrated by Deutschlandradio, ARD and other members of Digitalradio Deutschland - the body responsible for promoting DAB+ digital radio in Germany - the campaign will be live on consumers' radio and TV sets from 25 November to 8 December.

Two test multiplexes located in Leipzig and Freiburg, in the German state of Saxony, are due to go into regular operation. The multiplexes, which have been on air as part of a trial since January 2018, will host up to 15 DAB+ stations.

DAB+ continues to expand in Europe, with significant steps being taken across the continent. However, its growth is not limited to Europe. In North Africa, Tunisia is leading by example - over half of the population now has access to DAB+, and a DAB+ workshop organised by WorldDAB and ASBU last week brought together key stakeholders from various Arab States, highlighting the interest in DAB+ in the region.
