Virgin Radio could return to the airwaves as part of one of two rival bids to run the next wave of national digital radio stations. The return of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin brand is part of a bid put forward by Sound Digital, a consortium of TalkSport owner UTV Media, Magic parent Bauer and transmission business Arqiva, to run the second national commercial digital radio multiplex.

Plans announced today for a second national DAB multiplex in the UK include putting Radio 1 on DAB across the country. One of the bids submitted by Listen2Digital, includes 18 national radio services, one of which is Radio 1.

This will allow larger media groups to cover areas where they are currently not received, for example in Strasbourg where RMC, BFM, Skyrock, RTL and Fun Radio are all absent in FM, and who would benefit from digital radio to ensure continuity of service with their FM frequencies in Alsace."

Radio 2 Country will launch on digital radio on March 5 and broadcast until March 8, hosting a range of specially commissioned programmes and guest presenters from the world of Country music. The station will also broadcast live coverage of the UK's biggest country music festival C2C: Country Country to Country Festival.

Ofcom has begun a consultation over the proposed changes to local DAB digital radio coverage and frequency changes. The consultation document seeks views on a set of requests to change the frequencies and/or areas to be served by some of the local DAB multiplex services in the UK. Frequency changes are required to be able to boost coverage without interfering with other local DAB services in other regions.

This Spring, DAB+ will be available in Brussels and its surroundings. Initially the stations launching in these areas will be Top Radio, VBRO Radio, Radio Maria, Radio FG and Radiostad en Family Radio. "DAB + is not the future, DAB+ is now!" Said Bart Bosmans, CEO Norkring Belgium. "This new technology also offers many other features, such as better traffic, sending additional data and slideshows. DAB+ offers incredible benefits for both the radio and for the listeners. DAB+ is now live. The platform has the capacity to welcome additional radios."

The Jaguar XE is available to order now, ahead of deliveries in May 2015. Entry-level Jaguar XE SE models are equipped with cloth seats and the door trims finishers are gloss black. Other standard kit includes sat-nav, DAB digital radio and a leather steering wheel.

Dance music station Kiss FM UK will be removed from local DAB multiplexes serving Swindon and West Wiltshire from the end of the month. The transmission of Kiss on local DAB dates back to a time before Kiss was distributed nationally on DAB digital radio. This change is part of a process of withdrawing Kiss from local multiplexes as carriage contracts expire.
