Senegal current situation

Status trial and/or regulation

Last update: 21.05.2024 - older versions

On 5 April 2023, a trial DAB+ service was launched in Dakar.

On 8 May 2024, the Autorité de Régulation des Télécoms et Postes (ARTP) launched the pilot phase of DAB+ digital terrestrial radio. Faced with the scarcity or even shortage of frequencies in the FM band, particularly in certain parts of the country, the Authority has initiated a DAB+ standard "Radio Numérique Terrestre" (RNT) pilot project to explore alternatives to FM broadcasting and thus better meet the frequency demands of radio broadcasters.

The experimental station is located in the centre of Dakar at a height of 80m above ground. The transmission range extends to more than 73km as the crow flies, providing full coverage of the Dakar region and partial coverage of the Thiès region, particularly in the Nianing, Thièneba and Kayar triangle.

There are 2+1 transmitters of 600W each, broadcasting on channels 10A and 10C.
