Digital radio services were introduced in New Zealand on a trial basis in Auckland and Wellington with two transmitters operating in Band III.  These trials were licensed by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), but as yet there has been no requirement to develop wider policies concerning digital radio services.

The DAB+ trial in New Zealand was completed in 2018.

The government has made no decisions on the allocation of spectrum for DAB. It is anticipated that there will be more focus on this in coming years.
