American lobbies could derail the digitisation of radio in Europe

The only way to maintain terrestrial sound broadcasting with the same characteristics it has today without losing their identity; universal and free, remains DAB/DAB+. If anyone thinks that online radio could fill this gap, at least for now, is quite wrong.

Norkring Belgium expands its DAB+ network

Norkring Belgium will be expanding its DAB+ network in conjunction with eight commercial radio stations. Next Spring, Norkring will broadcast in DAB+ from Genk (Limburg) Egem (East and West Flanders) and Schoten (Antwerp).

DAB+ moves forward in Tuscany

The Italian association of local TV and radio broadcasters, Aeranti-Corallo has announced the establishment of two new network operators (Toscana DAB and Radio Digitale Toscana) to boost the dissemination of DAB+ in Florence, Pistoia, Prato, Arezzo and Siena.

Norkring expands DAB+ network in Flanders

Norkring announced the expansion of the DAB+ network in Flanders. The digital radio service is already available in Brussels and will be expanded to Genk (Limburg), Egem (West and East Flanders) and Schoten (Antwerp). In 2017, the network should cover all of Flanders.

ABU Digital Symposium 2016 Announces Agenda

WorldDAB has signed up to be a principal sponsor of the three-day conference and will provide a group of international speakers to share their experiences with instituting DAB digital radio services. Topics during the conference will include the integration of digital radio in connected cars and smart devices, and hybrid radio. WorldDAB will also host a workshop to help broadcasters and regulators plan the digitisation of radio.

TV in VHF Band III would be a disaster for digital radio

...some observers point out that television allocation could be moved to VHF Band III if more UHF spectrum is allocated to mobile operators. Were this to happen, it would be a disaster for digital radio. Spectrum allocated to DAB services after RRC-06 is already used in many European and Asian countries for DAB services.

DAB+ set to cross 20% coverage threshold

France Maghreb 2 urges the CSA to publish a timetable for DAB+, to permit the launch of new services by end 2016. This will mean coverage of more than 20% of the French population, thereby obliging DAB+ to be included in all radio receivers.
