Italy

Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, received a state-of-the-art Pure digital radio after a meeting with Nicola Sinisi, President of Tavolo Editori Radio (TER). Created in 2016, TER is responsible for gathering radio listening figures from across Italy.

On March 28th 2017, WorldDAB published the latest sales volumes of DAB receivers, coverage and equipment rates in households in key markets in Europe and Asia-Pacific. In France, over 948,000 DAB+ receivers have now been sold.

Germany

Yesterday, at the 48th Session of the Media Council, Bayerische Landeszentrale fur neue Medien (BLM) revised the guidelines for the promotion of technical infrastructure of radio offerings. The TIF Directive, which will come into force on 1 July 2017, is focused on the promotion of digital radio broadcasting in Bavaria.

Denmark

Denmark's Palaces and Culture Agency, with communications agency Prime Time, has produced a public information campaign on digital radio which will be broadcast across Denmark over the next two years. The campaign will inform everyone that DAB radio will be transmitted in DAB+ from 1st October 2017. It is hoped that the campaign will also increase in-car digital radio listening and raise awareness on how to receive digital radio in cars.

Over 50 million DAB receivers have now been sold worldwide. In the last year, digital radio has continued to go from strength to strength and the increase in receiver sales and listeners shows that the future of radio is digital.

Netherlands

According to figures from WorldDAB, over 581,000 DAB+ radio receivers (including cars equipped with DAB+) have now been sold in the Netherlands. Sales of DAB+ receivers grew in 2016 by 33% compared to 2015. The Netherlands is on track with its plan to achieve the fastest rollout of DAB+ in Europe.

Austria

Four potential multiplex transmission operators presented their concepts at an event, hosted jointly by Digital Radio Austria and the Association of Commercial Radios (VÖP) on 28 March 2017. The conference, which was held in Vienna, Austria brought together potential multiplex operators and broadcasters for the new nationwide DAB+ multiplex. The open tender for applicants to manage one nationwide DAB+ multiplex, and if required additional regional/local DAB+ multiplexes, will close on 12 June 2017.
