DAB+ expansion in Hesse progressing rapidly
With the commissioning of two additional DAB + transmitters, the Hessischer Rundfunk will expand its digital radio network on 8 August 2017. In the coming year, further steps are planned by the commissioning of new transmitters and supply improvements at existing locations.

Rajar Q2 2017: Digital
More than 6 in 10 adults currently listen to radio via a digital platform, according to the latest Rajar results. In total, 33 million people now tune in to radio via a digitally enabled receiver - DAB, digital TV or online - each week. In an average week, digital listening accounts for 503 million hours; DAB has a 71% share of digital listening hours.

Digital listening surges closer to 50%
Digital listening pushed ever closer to 50% by reaching a new record share of 48.7%, a percentage share growth of 7.5% compared to 45.3% in Q2 2016, according to RAJAR Q2 2017 data released today. The majority of digital listening remains via DAB digital radio which grew 6.1% in hours to account for 34.5% share of all radio listening or 71% of digital listening.

Changes planned for DAB networks in Franconian region of Bavaria
On June 1, the Media Council of the Bavarian State Center for New Media approved the simulcast distribution of the Franconian local radio stations. This means that in the north of Bavaria, a total of 14 local FM programs will also be distributed via DAB+ on the networks found on channels 10A, 8C and 10B.

14 local radio programs in Franconia now available on DAB+
In Franconia,14 local radio stations broadcast via VHF can now be received via DAB+. This was announced by the Bavarian State Centre for New Media (BLM) on 1 August, and is the first step in the cooperation between Bayerischer Rundfunk and BLM on the DAB network in Bavaria.

NRK continues to improve DAB coverage
Throughout August and September 2017, NRK will be switching on new DAB transmitters across Norway. "We are setting up new transmitters to improve overall coverage, often after audience feedback " said Petter Hox, Radio Director at NRK. NRK's DAB network now covers at least 99.7 percent of the population.

Whip life in the DAB
Together with Audiocom AS from Kristiansand, Switchon AS has developed a new DAB splitter with amplifier to be mounted between the old FM whip on the car and the new DAB radio/adapter. The solution can be installed in most cars. The technology is specifically adapted to Norwegian conditions.
