Turning off FM was pretty courageous. In all, a typical Norwegian has moved from five stations on FM to more than 35 on DAB. The last FM transmitters went silent in December, and weekly PPM measurement has been measuring what the audience have been doing; so the special workshop was a way of reporting back to the industry the effect of switching off FM. The answer: surprisingly little.

Sales of DAB+ radios in Australia have increased by almost 25% last year. At the end of 2017, the counter stood at 3.8 million units. This concerns both portable radios and car radios. Meanwhile, 43% of radio listeners in the five major cities have a DAB+ radio.

The number of DAB+ digital radios in Australia climbed to 3.8 million in 2017, up 24% over the past 12 months, according to Commercial Radio Australia. Joan Warner, CEO of Commercial Radio Australia, said the increase in DAB+ devices was expected to continue in 2018, and that digital radio is now standard equipment in 47% of all new vehicles being sold.
