French broadcasters competing over national DAB+ licences
40 applications were submitted to the CSA in November 2018 following the regulator's call for tenders, with a total of 24 places due to be available for broadcasters across the two national multiplexes expected to launch in early 2020. The CSA is due to announce its decision on 20 February 2019.

Radio Network Netherlands starts tests on DAB+
Operator Radio Network Netherlands has started a non-commercial DAB+ experiment, the aim of which is to experiment as an operator with a DAB+ network in layer 6 for non-national commercial broadcasters.The operator wants to see how portable indoor coverage can be improved at several low installation points with low power, test different equipment and look at the costs of such a DAB network.

More digital radio for Austria as DAB+ launches nationally

EECC in spotlight at Brussels Motor Show
As part of the Brussels Motor show, manufacturers, regulators and broadcasters came together to highlight the EECC directive which was recently introduced by the European Commission. The directive requires all new car radios to be capable of receiving digital terrestrial radio, with a period of two years granted to EU member countries for them to transpose the code into national legislation.

Australian radio listeners up 22% in last 10 years
The popularity of radio has grown significantly in Australia with radio audiences expanding by 12% over the past five years, and by 22% over the past decade. More than 4.2 million Australians listened to radio via a DAB+ digital radio each week (up from 3.6 million in 2017).
