ASEAN broadcasters assemble in Bangkok for DAB+ workshop
Radio experts from across ASEAN attended yesterday's workshop on "Digital Radio Services, Implementation and Business Models" organised jointly by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), the Royal Thai Army (RTA), the Government Public Relations Department (PRO) and WorldDAB.

Local radio in Belgium boosted by DAB+
The local radio landscape in Wallonia-Brussels Federation is to be enriched by the launch of new a DAB+ community radio network. The broadcaster RCF has announced it has obtained a frequency on the new DAB+ community network to be launched in autumn 2019 covering all of the region.

French regulator gives further boost to DAB+
In another step towards the national rollout of DAB+ in France the CSA has announced it has accepted 68 out of the 105 applications received for further DAB+ stations in Paris, Marseille and Nice. Authorisations will be issued before the end of 2019.

DAB+ day at IFA 2019 launches major DAB+ promo campaign
Stakeholders across the German radio industry come together at IFA Berlin on 5 September for a DAB+ themed day, which kicks off a major cross-platform DAB+ promo campaign in the lead up to Christmas. Germany now has more than 260 regional programmes broadcast on DAB+ and almost every second car off the assembly line now comes with DAB+.

CSA launches new call for tenders for 15 sites
The French regulator CSA has launched a new call for tenders for DAB+ licenses across a number of locations in France. Specifically, the call for tenders concerns the cities and regions of Amiens, Angers, Brest, Caen, Clermont-Ferrand, Limoges, Le Mans, Metz, Montpellier, Nancy, Nîmes, Perpignan, Reims, Rennes and Troyes. Interested parties should submit their applications to the CSA by 6 November 2019.

5G to complement DAB+ rather than replace it
5G is very much still in its early stages of development, and a free, nationwide distribution of radio over 5G is not an option - at least for the foreseeable future. DAB+ is well established across the continent and while the introduction of 5G may help to complement DAB+, it certainly isn't considered to replace it.
