DAB+ on World Radio Day 2026: Broadcasting remains indispensable – digital radio strengthens security and resilience in times of crisis
13 February is World Radio Day. For more than 100 years, radio has been a trusted source of information. Even in the digital age, the medium remains relevant: DAB+ radio, the digital successor to FM, ensures that future generations will also have free and non-discriminatory access to relevant news. The DAB+ digital radio standard provides a modern, robust and energy-efficient transmission path that continues to function even when other infrastructures fail. The new automatic system for safety information via DAB+ – Automatic Safety Alert (ASA) – which is currently being successfully tested in Germany, consistently exploits the strengths of DAB+ in civil protection.
