Spain's CNMC supports the promotion of DAB+ digital radio
Spain's National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) has issued its report on the Draft Royal Decree adopting measures to promote DAB+ digital terrestrial broadcasting technology. The draft aims to promote digital radio in Spain without modifying current FM broadcasts. The Royal Decree proposes an adaptation of the Technical Plan to take advantage of DAB+, which allows the number of programmes per multiplex to be doubled (from 6 to 12). This expansion will enable the restructuring of national networks: one will be dedicated entirely to CRTVE and another will contain the 12 existing private licences. CRTVE will act as the driving force behind the rollout, with up to 12 channels, and will gradually expand its coverage to 85% of the population.
