Dialling it up: DAB+ and broadcast radio prominence in the age of the electric vehicle

Drawing on twelve months of campaigning across government, industry and technology partnerships, this session delivers an honest progress report on Australia’s five-point strategy to secure the prominence of broadcast radio - across AM, FM, DAB+ and streaming - in connected cars. It makes the structural case, grounded in emergency resilience, consumer behaviour and international precedent, for why prominence protection is an urgent policy and engineering priority rather than a legacy broadcasting concern, and sets out what the industry must do together before the EV transition closes the window for action.

Speaker: Lizzie Young, CEO, Commercial Radio and Audio, Australia

Spain’s policy momentum and an approach to DAB+ rollout

Spain is entering a decisive phase for digital radio, with a proposed Royal Decree on DAB+ currently under consideration - setting out the regulatory framework for rollout and market structure. Public radio will be the key player in the rollout process, with RTVE starting and leading an effort that regional public radio broadcasters will progressively join. This session looks into how RTVE and regional public broadcasters are coordinating approaches and what Spain’s evolving framework could mean for deployment, advocacy of radio in vehicles, and the wider European landscape.

Speaker: Javier Sánchez Pérez, Director of Audiovisual Policy and Public Service, Radio Televisión Española (RTVE)

Investing in networks – DAB+ coverage today and tomorrow

DAB+ is only as strong as the infrastructure behind it. This moderated panel brings together leading transmission operators from across Europe to outline the current extent of national coverage, planned expansion and the investment frameworks supporting long-term certainty.

The discussion will focus on road, tunnel and cross-border coverage designed specifically for mobility, including test routes and coverage maps relevant to OEM validation. As markets move toward FM parity and strengthened legislative support, the session highlights why continued investment in broadcast infrastructure provides stability for the automotive ecosystem.
