Vietnam has started a DAB+ trial with 2 sites, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city. The Hanoi site is full time operation, Ho Chi Minh is part time.
Following an initial DAB+ trial in 2013, the second trial has been on air in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh since October 2019. The objectives of the trial are to evaluate coverage parameters and test signal and sound quality.
The current trial will be evaluated in 2020, with a report submitted to the government to get approval for further steps in 2021, and with the ambitious goal of converting from analogue to digital radio by 2025.
Population coverage in Hanoi currently stands at 73%, while population coverage in Ho Chi Minh is 86%, according to the coverage prediction results.
DVB-T and then T2 conversion started in 2010. The current ASO date of terrestrial television is end of 2020.
